Rossfeld panoramic road

You can find this information here

The Rossfeldstrasse is definitely one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world and measures around 12 km between the two toll booths. From the Hotel Lampllehen you can reach Rossfeldstrasse via Unterau and Oberau in about 15 minutes. Coming from Berchtesgaden via the Obersalzberg. Despite its height, the road is passable all year round. It winds its way up to 13 meters with a gradient of up to 1540%. Skiers will find a relatively snow-sure, easy ski area on the Rossfeld. You can stop off at the many restaurants along the route. The Ofnerboden, about 2km from the south toll booth, is also the starting point for a beautiful hike to the Eagle's Nest.

You shouldn't be tempted to just drive down Rossfeldstrasse, even though it offers you some great and constantly changing views while you're driving, especially thanks to the many curves and bends.

There are enough parking spaces at the most beautiful viewing points and we definitely recommend that you use them. If you climb a little higher from the parking lot, for example to the Hennenköpfl, you will have an unforgettable panoramic view of the Berchtesgaden and Salzburg Alps. In the south you can see the impressive Hohen Göll massif and the Kehlsteinhaus. The Reiter Alpe can be seen in the west and the long Untersberg in the northwest. In the north you can see the Salzburg Valley and in the background, when the weather is nice, even the Dachstein and the Tennengebirge.

Rossfeldstrasse is no longer an insider tip, but it is definitely a MUST on a holiday in Berchtesgaden! You can drive up in your own car in a relaxed manner and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view high above Berchtesgaden in a comfortable way, without climbing or climbing. Anywhere else this would require long mountain tours or expensive cable car rides. Even in high season, Rossfeldstrasse is not “overcrowded” and you can find a quiet spot here and there.

Hike to the Purtschellerhaus

We can also recommend the hike to the Purtschellerhaus. It is a DAV mountain hut and is located directly on the Austrian border. The western part is in Germany and the eastern part in Austria.

The varied hike to the Purtschellerhaus takes about 1 ¼ hours from the Ahornkaser and takes you first along a sandy path, then over stairs and finally over a forest path to the hut. There you can stop off on the beautiful terrace and enjoy the impressive panorama.

The Purtschellerhaus is open continuously in the summer season from around mid-May to mid-October - but changes due to weather are possible.
