Around Lampllehen
Things to doin Berchtesgaden and Salzburg
On Königssee, the boat takes you between steep rock faces. In the Klausbachtal, paths lead further into the national park beneath the Mühlsturzhörner. And when you feel like a city day, Salzburg is just across the border. From our home in Marktschellenberg, you can choose a different direction each morning. Here are our ideas, from a walk by the water to a full day in the mountains.

Lakes and gorges
For a first visit, take a boat trip on Königssee and leave time for a walk ashore. The Malerwinkel circuit leads through the woods to views along the lake. At Hintersee, combine the lakeside path with the mossy boulders of the Zauberwald. Almbachklamm and Wimbachklamm have steps and walkways requiring a sure footing; both are seasonal outings.

Mountains, alpine pastures and a view
A mountain view doesn’t always require a full day’s hike. The Jenner cable car takes you up above Königssee, and the Rossfeld road has several places to stop and look out. For a walking day, choose a circuit from Hinterbrand or Hochschwarzeck, the climb to the Purtschellerhaus or a longer route in the national park. Match the walk to your fitness, the weather and the season, and check hut and cable-car operations too.

When the mountains are in the clouds
At the salt mine, a train takes you underground, with miners’ slides and a raft trip across the Spiegelsee along the way. Book a tour ahead and allow time for changing as well as the visit. At Traumwerk, follow model trains through a whole landscape, then explore the collection of historic tin toys.

A day in Salzburg
Start in the Mirabell Gardens and cross the Salzach into the old town. A visit to the fortress adds another perspective: courtyards, the state rooms and rooftops seen from above, followed by lanes and squares below. Salzburg is about twenty minutes from Lampllehen by car, with parking and walking time on top.

Advent and winter days
In Advent, stalls fill the streets between Berchtesgaden’s old houses, while Salzburg’s markets spread across several squares. Another winter outing leads into the Klausbachtal to the deer feeding area. Pick the right season and allow time to wait: the animals decide when they appear. Summer mountain routes need a separate assessment before any winter walk.
