Between Berchtesgaden
and Salzburg.

Our home is in Marktschellenberg in the Bavarian Alps, between Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. It’s a short drive to Königssee, Jenner, the valleys of Berchtesgaden National Park or Salzburg’s old town. Berchtesgaden is around nine minutes away by car, Salzburg around twenty. And at the end of the day, you’re soon back on your own balcony or terrace.

Thirteen places to start exploring, all within about 25 minutes by car.

Long days out. Warm evenings back.

Long days, warm evenings and time to get out into the mountains. An early start for a walk, an afternoon by the lake and back to your balcony in the evening. Summer gives you room for all three.

  • Beyond Königssee to Obersee

    Take an early boat to Salet and walk on to Obersee. The lake beneath the rock walls is one of our favourite places.

  • Lunch at an alpine hut

    Bindalm, Halsalm and Mitterkaseralm give a walk a welcome destination. Check which huts are open, then choose a route that suits you.

  • An evening in Salzburg

    After a day in the mountains, spend the evening in Salzburg. At Augustiner Bräustübl, beer is served in stoneware mugs beneath the old chestnut trees.

Getting here & settling in

How do we find you?

You’ll find us at Kedererweg 8, 83487 Marktschellenberg, between Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. Coming along the A8, you can leave at Piding and continue via Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden. If your route takes you through Austria, check the motorway toll requirements before you travel.

What time is check-in?

From 4 pm. Your keys and directions to your room or chalet will be in an envelope with your name at the main entrance. You can let yourselves in without waiting at reception or filling in forms.

What time is check-out?

Please check out by 10 am.

Where can we park?

Hotel guests park directly outside the hotel, chalet guests outside their chalet. Parking is free, and there’s no need to reserve a space.

Can we explore without a car?

The nearest bus stop is Kugelmühle, about ten minutes away on foot. It’s downhill on the way there and uphill coming back. Your guest card, which we provide, includes local bus travel in the Berchtesgadener Land region.

Prices & booking

Is there a tourist tax?

tourist tax: €1.55 aged 6–17, €3.10 aged 18 and over per person per night. Children under 6 are exempt. Payable locally.

Do we need to pay a deposit?

Yes: €100 per Classic Double Room and Comfort Double Room, €150 per Comfort Family Room and €200 per Chalet, within 14 days of booking. The balance is due 14 days before arrival.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you book within the last 21 days before arrival and have no night in the periods below: Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival. After that and in case of no-show, 80% of the total price. If you book earlier and for stays with a night from 20 Dec 2026 to 6 Jan 2027, from 22 Mar 2027 to 4 Apr 2027, from 5 Jul 2027 to 29 Aug 2027 and from 20 Dec 2027 to 31 Dec 2027: Free cancellation up to 21 days before arrival. After that, up to 7 days before arrival, 50% of the total price. After that and in case of no-show, 80% of the total price.

How can we pay?

We prefer a bank transfer in advance. Your confirmation includes the payment details and a QR code. You can also pay in cash on departure.

During your stay

Are children welcome?

Yes. To keep the hotel peaceful for everyone, we generally welcome children aged six and over, with younger children by arrangement. Children of all ages are welcome in the chalets.

Can we bring our dog?

We’re sorry, but we can’t accommodate dogs.

Do you serve dinner?

We serve breakfast only. For dinner, we’ll be happy to suggest places to eat nearby.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and in all chalets.

Where can we keep bikes and skis?

There’s a lockable garage beside the hotel, with sockets for charging e-bike batteries and a boot dryer. Ask us for the key. We also have two e-bikes for hire; ask us about availability and the current rate.

What’s provided in the chalet?

Bed linen, towels and a fully equipped kitchen with a hob, dishwasher and coffee machine are provided. If you stay longer than a week, we change the bed linen. Any final cleaning charge is shown with your booking price.

Where is smoking allowed?

On your balcony or terrace. All indoor spaces are non-smoking.

Do you have a spa or sauna?

We don’t have a spa, sauna or pool at the house. Watzmann Therme is about eight minutes away by car.

Is the house accessible?

The house isn’t wheelchair accessible. If you’d like to discuss whether it would suit your needs, please call us so we can go through the details together.
